it's five o'clock in the morning

moni breathed in the warm, heavy air, sighing happily. sure, it was heavy with chlorine, but fresh water was overrated. it was either here or the lake, and there was no way she was going to float away her worries on a murky pool of dirt. besides, she liked chlorine. it was relaxing, and god did she need to relax right now. she'd forgotten how stressful school was. she'd have wrinkles by the time she turned twenty at this rate. she checked herself one last time in the mirror before heading downstairs to the pool. her make-up was very natural and, of course, completely waterproof. she was wearing a yellow bikini with a matching sarong. she smiled at herself, then turned and hurried downstairs.
moni slipped through the door and into the huge room, the strips of light on the ceiling reflecting against the surface of the water and the shiny white tiles on the floor and wall. she climbed up to the middle diving board and jumped off, curved into a perfect dive and hit the water without making a splash. she swum a few laps, cutting gracefully though the water (she'd always been proud of her swimming ability). unlike other swimmers, she hadn't practised speed or technique - she'd practised looking good in the water.
she made her way over to the side and pulled herself up out of the pool. the air was surprisingly warm, not too different to the water temperature. she hurried over to the storage cupboard and rooted around until she found a big pink lilo. she managed to get it out of the cupboard and placed it on the water, then lay back on top of it. that felt good. she let one hand trail in the water. god, i guess you don't notice how tired you are until you lie down. she let her eyes flicker closed. she wasn't really asleep, just dozing. dozing's better than sleeping. you can actually feel yourself getting all relaxed and stuff.
